Derry councilors select semi-finalists for town admin job

DERRY — Town councilors have narrowed the list of candidates vying to become the next town administrator to a pool of semi-finalists.

Councilors met in a non-public meeting on Monday and whittled 52 applicants down to a group of semi-finalists, Council Chairman Mark Osborne said Tuesday night during the council’s regular meeting.

“In the upcoming weeks we will be interviewing those semi-finalists, hoping that we will find what we have been looking for, and that is a perfect fit for Derry to serve us but mostly to serve you all,” Osborne said.

Councilors are seeking to fill the post that was last held by former Town Administrator John Anderson, who was discharged in October by the town without cause.

Anderson had been charged with lewdness and indecent exposure, both misdemeanors, in August 2013 following an incident that allegedly occurred at his house on July 11, 2013, involving DirectTV salesman Errol Flynn.

Anderson took the stand in his own defense Tuesday during his trial in 10th Circuit Court. During the trial, the charge of indecent exposure was dismissed by Judge Lucinda Sadler, who didn’t provide an explanation for her decision. But Sadler declined to dismiss the lewdness charge, also without explanation.

Sadler said she has taken the matter under advisement and will make a decision.

The deadline for filing applications for the town administrator position closed last week.

The search is the second one councilors have conducted this year after they announced earlier this summer they were passing over the two finalists — Richard Brown of Massachusetts and Stephen Eldridge of Maine — and reopening the search.

The position has a salary range of $100,000 to $125,000.
