Staff Report
August 20. 2014 8:40PM

ROCHESTER — Police said a 19-year-old Farmington resident was traveling at high speed on Wakefield Street, heading into town near Spaulding High School, at about 8:45 Wednesday morning when the vehicle left the road, crossed a grass area and continued about 50 yards, striking a monument at Wakefield Street and Yeagley Way.

The vehicle, a 2012 Kia Optima, then traveled across Yeagley Way, struck a tree on Wakefield Street and rolled over on its roof.

The driver, Devon A. Mix, was extricated from the vehicle by the Rochester Fire Department and transported to Frisbie Hospital. The vehicle sustained heavy damage. The monument was also damaged.

Police said that although the area was heavily congested with construction workers on Yeagley Way and with people walking in the area, no one else was injured.

The incident remains under investigation.
