Two leaders for Senate; Foley in 19, Kenda in 24

In state Senate District 19 — which covers Derry, Hampstead and Windham — Republicans have a clear choice among three competing candidates this year: Jim Foley.

Best known locally as chairman of the Derry Republican Town Committee, Foley is a businessman with a long record of community involvement. He volunteers for many civic and charitable organizations and has established his reputation in town as a leader who steps up when people in the community need a hand.

We think Foley would demonstrate this same leadership and commitment in the state Senate. He is running on a platform of reforming state policies that limit economic growth, such as our high business tax rate and the sometimes burdensome nature of state regulations, and investing where needed, such as the widening of I-93. He would be a great choice for District 19 Republicans. In District 24 — a Seacoast district including Greenland, Rye, Hampton and Seabrook — Republicans have another business leader who would make a great nominee: Steve Kenda.

The North Hampton businessman built his own software consulting business, sold it, and has become a successful serial entrepreneur. He is an interesting candidate because his campaign message shows that he has a deeper understanding of New Hampshire’s problems than most candidates do. The problems he wants to solve are the ones we hear so many business owners complaining about: high energy costs, high business taxes, disappointing educational outcomes. Kenda is a very sharp guy who would work to solve the state’s most pressing economic problems, and then leave office (he has pledged to serve no more than three terms).

That is refreshing. He would make a great nominee for the GOP.
