Carey Classic set for tonight in Manchester

The third annual Sam Carey New Hampshire All-Star Classic, benefitting the Rock On Foundation, will be held today at 6 p.m. at Manchester Central High. Rosters include former high school, college and pro players, along with current prep school players who all knew Carey.

They, along with the community of Manchester, continue to support the game aimed at raising money for basketball projects around the Queen City.

At 6 p.m., a prep school all-star game will be held, followed by the alumni game at 7 p.m.

Carey, who played for Manchester Central and Southern New Hampshire University (inducted into the SNHU Athletic Hall of Fame in 2014), died in a car accident in 2011. He was traveling home from Canada, where he played for the Quebec Kebs of the National Basketball League of Canada.

BST Basketball will be donating proceeds from this year’s event to the Rock On Foundation, a 501c3 nonprofit organization founded by Luke Bonner and his brother, the San Antonio Spurs’ Matt Bonner. Combined with the $3,000 raised at last year’s event, Rock On plans to use the proceeds to renovate the Beech Street School basketball court.

Boston Celtics mascot “Lucky” and members of the Green Team will provide a halftime trampoline dunk show.

Members of the Green Team include Miguel Gonzalez (Southern New Hampshire), Scott Hazelton (University of Rhode Island), Joe Fremeau (Bentley University, Manchester Central), Matt Lemieux (Colby-Sawyer, Manchester Central) P.J. Young (SNHU, Manchester Central), Greg Lacasse (Bentley University, Spaulding High of Rochester), Austin Denton (NHTI, Merrimack High), Troy Bowen (SNHU, Nashua), Steve Deluca (Brandeis University, Merrimack High) and Chris Tardiff (Bentley University, Timberlane of Plaistow).

Tickets are $10 per person. All ticket sales will be at the door. For more information, visit
