Salem's Rasello named GNAC field hockey goalie of week
Simmons College field hockey player Brianna Rastello, of Salem, was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Goalkeeper of the Week for the week of Aug. 25-31, it was announced Monday by the league office.
This season is the inaugural campaign for the GNAC, making Rastello its first-ever Goalkeeper of the Week.
The sophomore stopped 10 of 13 shots that she faced for the Sharks to post a .769 save percentage in a 3-1 defeat against No. 17 Mount Holyoke College on Aug. 29. Making the second-year keeper’s effort even more impressive was the fact that the Lyons owned 19 penalty corners to keep the pressure on Rastello the entire match. She held Mount Holyoke scoreless for the first 25-plus minutes of play. The double-digit save total marked the fourth time in her career that she has turned away 10 or more shots in a match.
Rastello has started all nine matches she has appeared in during her time at Simmons. A physical therapy major, she owns a career .795 save mark with 89 lifetime stops, while posting a 2.51 goals against average in 642:10 minutes of action. She also has one shutout to her credit.
