Police: Apartment building fire was deliberately set

MANCHESTER — An early-morning fire at a Merrimack Street apartment building is being investigated as arson, police said.

The fire, reported at 1:10 a.m. at 338 Merrimack St., appears to have started in an outside trash container that was set on fire, according to investigators. Flames spread to the exterior wall of the building but firefighters kept the blaze from spreading to the interior.

Heat from the blaze, however, damaged the exterior of a nearby building.

No injuries were reported.

Police said the initial investigation determined the fire was intentionally set.

Anyone with information is asked to call Det. Peter Kucharski at 792-5522.
