The JV team: Obama's unbelievable admission

Last Wednesday, the U.S. commander in chief said of the barbarians who are spreading the Dark Ages from Syria to Iraq: “We don’t have a strategy yet.”

Afterward, White House spokesman Josh Ernest took to CNN to claim there was a strategy.

“I just want to be clear about what our strategy is,” Ernest said. “The President’s clear in that this strategy is one that’s not going to solve this problem overnight. But he’s also clear about the fact that our strategy can’t only be the American military. We have a comprehensive strategy for dealing with ISIL. One component of our broader strategy is the use of military force.”

Our strategy is that it will take more than 24 hours to do whatever it is Obama wants to do with the Islamic State, and “the use of military force” will be only “one component” of whatever the President decides to do. Oh, good.

This infuriating incompetence is aided and abetted by every member of Congress who does not pressure the President to act. Sen. Kelly Ayotte has been urging swift military action.

Sen. Jeanne Shaheen demurred until Thursday, when she wrote to Secretary of State John Kerry and Treasury Secretary Jack Lew (not to President Obama) urging them to “do everything in your power to disrupt and stop the flow of money and foreign fighters” to IS. She had nothing to say about dealing with the thousands of terrorists already on the ground in Iraq and Syria.

In January, Obama famously called IS the JV team. Last week he showed who the real JV team is. Unfortunately, we are stuck with the team captain for two more years. But we can cut Jeanne Shaheen from the team in two months. If we sent a better squad to the Senate, it would help.
