Motorcyclist killed at busy Chichester intersection
The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of his relatives, said Police Chief Patrick Clarke.
“We’ve had a lot of trouble there. It wasn’t the first accident there, and I doubt it will be the last,” he said.
An off-duty firefighter attempted to perform CPR on the motorcyclist, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
“It’s a case where two vehicles cannot occupy the same space at the same time,” he said.
The driver of the Escape was not injured, but was upset after the crash, he said.
“Technically, she may have failed to yield the right of way, but at that time of day at that intersection, it was just an unfortunate turn of events,” he said.
“It’s likely that her view was blocked, and she just didn’t know he was there,” he said.
