Rowdy night ushers in Keene Pumpkin Festival
KEENE - Police were called to multiple disturbances and used pepper spray on members of one unruly crowd that was throwing bottles at officers on the eve of the city's annual Pumpkin Festival.
According to the Keene police log, the most serious call came at 10:53 p.m. Friday about a large part on Marlboro and Jennison streets. A state trooper was also on the scene as some people in the crowd threw bottles toward the officers, hitting a police cruiser on the hood. An officer reported dispersing pepper spray because of the bottles being thrown.
Troopers reported more bottles coming from a different crowd at Blake and Winchester streets at 11:26 p.m. and again at 11:43 p.m. at a different location on Blake Street.
Keene State University campus security also called police at 12:28 a.m. Saturday because of a large crowd forming and talk of rioting.
There were multiple arrests on charges including disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and alcohol violations.
