NEW DURHAM — Police continue to follow leads into a cat being thrown from the window of a moving vehicle on Route 11 last Saturday.
Sgt. Reggie Meattey said police have received tips but nothing that has led to an arrest.
“It was really sick,” he said of the incident.
A woman who saw the cat being thrown turned around to retrieve the animal. The unnamed witness said the cat went out the window of a blue car and bounced across Route 11 to the opposite side of the road.
Police said the animal died in the woman’s arms as she headed to a veterinarian.
The woman buried the cat on her property near a lake, police said.
If found, the person responsible could face animal cruelty and reckless conduct charges, both Class A misdemeanors, Meattey said.
The charges each carry up to a year in prison and a fine of up to $2,000.
Anyone with information about the matter is asked to contact New Durham police at 859-2751.
