BRENTWOOD – A woman and a dog in her car were killed in a head-on crash with a pickup truck on Route 125 Tuesday night.

State police Sgt. Steve Cooper said the woman, identified as Catherine Roberts, 57, of Epping, was driving northbound when her red 1998 Ford Escort crossed the centerline and struck a 1995 Chevy pickup truck traveling southbound.

Roberts and a dog in the car died at the scene and the male driver of the truck, John Mattern, 34, of Kingston, was transported to Exeter Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, state police said.

The accident happened just after 9 p.m. in the area of Creative Self Storage at 321 Route 125.

While the crash remains under investigation, Cooper said witnesses told police that the car was “all over the road” before it crossed into oncoming traffic.

State and local police along with several emergency crews responded to the scene.

A section of the highway was shut down between North Road and Scrabble Road. Traffic was being detoured onto Prescott Road.
