Ted Cruz unveils NH endorsements

May 14. 2015 8:10AM

CONCORD – Republican presidential hopeful Ted Cruz of Texas announced more than 40 conservatives endorsing his campaign in New Hampshire.

Former U.S. Sen. Bob Smith, R-NH former New Hampshire House Speaker Bill O'Brien, and New Hampshire Executive Councilor David Wheeler are state co-chairmen for Cruz.

"Senator Cruz has distinguished himself as the country's strongest conservative leader in a Congress where too often being an insider is more important than being faithful to the public," O'Brien said.

Smith said Cruz was "the best of the best."

"There's also a personal reason for me in supporting Ted Cruz because he reminds me of me when I started out." He referred to Cruz being on the Senate floor trying to block "Obamacare," similar to Smith's speeches against abortion when he served in the Senate.

Smith said the conservatives were lining up to fight for Cruz, and not coming together to oppose any other conservative in the race.
