A freshman state representative will be named state co-chairman for Donald J. Trump’s presidential campaign.

Rep. Fred Doucette, R-Salem, said he is excited to work for Trump as the real estate mogul seeks the Republican nomination.

“I like what he has to say. I like where he wants to take the country,” Doucette said in a phone interview Monday.

Doucette, a retired firefighter and paramedic in Salem, said Trump speaks to those who believe the country should be run more like a business.

As the New Hampshire Union Leader first reported last week, state Rep. Stephen Stepanek, R-Amherst, was chosen the other state co-chairman.

Like Stepanek, Doucette met Trump several times before endorsing him.

Unlike Stepanek, who is a veteran legislator and former Deputy Majority Leader and House Ways and Means chairman, Doucette is in his first term in the 400-member House of Representatives.

Doucette said the excitement is building for Trump. He noted people he met at a coffee shop in his town were “clamoring” for Trump bumper stickers.

Trump is scheduled to return to New Hampshire on Tuesday night. He is set to speak at a reception at 30 Church Road in Bedford at 5:30 p.m. The campaign, which estimated 300 people had reserved spots, has designated overflow parking and shuttle at the nearby Bedford Presbyterian Church, 4 Church Road.
