Manchester native Danos named to UNH position

Manchester native Jon C. Danos was hired Monday as the senior associate athletic director for external affairs at the University of New Hampshire.
The announcement was made by Marty Scarano, director of athletics at UNH.
“I am ecstatic to be back at my roots joining my alma mater at a time when the vision for UNH athletics and its student-athletes is so bold and exciting,” Danos said. “I am honored that Marty and his dedicated team have asked me to join them. My aim is to strengthen the UNH Athletics brand and to help deliver extraordinary experiences to students, athletes, boosters and fans. The opening of the new stadium next year provides the perfect catalyst for executing on these goals right now. ”
The position oversees athletics revenue generation, ticket sales and third party multi-media rights sales, marketing and promotions, communications, television and radio contracts, licensing, merchandising and Wildcat Sport Properties.
Danos, a Manchester Central graduate who also graduated from UNH with a bachelor of science degree in business administration in 1990, returns to Durham following 25 years in minor league baseball. The last 12 years he served as partner, president and COO with Opening Day Partners, LLC (ODP)and Maryland Baseball, LLC.
Danos negotiated naming rights agreements to four ballparks and launched ballclubs that generate tens of millions of dollars in ticket and sponsorship sales, food, beverage, catering and merchandise revenue.
He participated in the acquisition of digital platform and radio broadcasting agreements, including an agreement that made the Sugar Land (Texas) Skeeters the first minor league team to broadcast all 70 home games on ESPN3.
Danos worked with the Bowie (Md.) Baysox from 1993-2003 and as general manager of the team from October 1995 until his departure. During his tenure, Bowie won the 1998 Bob Freitas Award as the top Double-A organization and he was named the Eastern League’s top executive in 1999.
Danos and his wife, Laura, also a UNH alum, have three children.
