Keene police: Woman filed false sexual assault claim

September 30. 2015 10:55AM

KEENE — A local woman has been charged with falsely accusing a man of sexual assault.

Nakia MaCauley, 18, of South Lincoln Street, was arrested Tuesday on the misdemeanor charge.

The investigation began Sept. 9 when police were called to the emergency room of Cheshire Medical Center/Dartmouth-Hitchcock for a reported sexual assault.

Investigators interviewed MaCauley that day and again on Sept.16. Both times, she identified a male acquaintance as having sexually assaulted her, police said.

Inconsistencies developed in the investigation, police said, when detectives interviewed the accused man and others.

On Tuesday, detectives interviewed MaCauley again and police said they developed probable cause to charge her with the misdemeanor.

The case was presented to a judge in 9th Circuit Court - Keene District Division on Tuesday and police obtained a warrant for her arrest.

McCauley was arrested without incident Tuesday and later was released on $1,500 personal recognizance bail pending arraignment Dec. 7.

The case remains under investigation.

Police ask anyone with additional information concerning the incident to call Det. Jen Ramey at 603-357-9820.
