October 21. 2015 11:25PM

BEDFORD — Primary Bank, the first bank to open in New Hampshire in seven years, welcomed former Oklahoma governor and current CEO of the American Banker’s Association Frank Keating for a business roundtable discussion on Oct. 16.

Attendees included the owners of several small businesses as well as the Primary Bank’s founder Bill Greiner.

Topics focused on the New Hampshire banking industry and the status of the New Hampshire economy. The discussion ranged from how Primary Bank emerged to be only the second bank in the nation to secure FDIC approval since the 2009 financial crisis and how the banking industry as evolved as a result of the recession.

“It’s important to remember that the backbone of our economy is small businesses and to be able to engage with them and learn from their experiences and insights is critical,” said Keating, according to a news release.

Primary Bank CEO Bill Stone said the event, the first in a series, was part of its effort to connect with local businesses.

“Having this kind of dialogue at the bank is an important way for the banking industry to understand the needs of the local business community, so that we can continue to work together to help our economy grow,” Stone said.
