Sixth-year head coach Maureen Magarity returns eight letter-winners and six newcomers when the University of New Hampshire women’s basketball team opens its season against Colby-Sawyer College Friday at 5 p.m. at Lundholm Gymnasium in Durham.

Last season, the Wildcats were 17-12 overall and 9-7 against America East opponents, finishing fourth in the league standings.

Co-captain senior guard Elizabeth Belanger, an America East All-Conference First Team selection last season, led the team with 15.8 points and 6.5 rebounds per game.

Joining her in the backcourt are junior Kristen Anderson, sophomores Aliza Simpson of Londonderry and Peyton Booth along with redshirt freshman Emily Peters and freshmen Sam Sabino and Alli Gribbin.

New Hampshire gets one of its best forwards back, senior Corinne Coia, who missed the entire 2014-15 season due to injury. Before her injury, the 6-foot-4 Coia ranked second on the team in scoring (11.8) and rebounds (5.9).

Newcomers include freshman Raven Brathwaite, who played for Brookline (Mass.) High School and the AAU’s Boston Showstoppers. She was named one of the top 20 players in Massachusetts by Mass Prepstars. Junior Kat Fogarty of Peterborough comes to UNH as a transfer after playing two seasons at Marist College. She will sit out the 2015-16 season due to NCAA transfer regulations.
