NASHUA — Starting Friday, a little taste of heaven will envelop downtown Nashua for a weekend of chocolate madness.

The city’s first-ever Chocolate Stroll will kick off at 4 p.m. today and continue throughout the day on Saturday.

Hosted by Nashua’s Great American Downtown, the event is expected to draw hundreds of dessert-craving patrons, according to Paul Shea, executive director of GAD.

“The downtown merchants were trying to figure out a great way to highlight the fantastic shops and boutiques around Valentine’s Day, and they figured that most people love chocolate,” said Shea. “Who wouldn’t turn out for chocolate?”

About 20 downtown venues are participating in the Chocolate Stroll. Participating locations will offer complimentary chocolates to visitors from 4 to 7 p.m. today, and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday.

While guests indulge in free chocolate delights, they are encouraged to shop at different places throughout downtown — especially the distinctive shops and boutiques that make downtown Nashua unique, according to Shea.

“It is our hope that folks will come to downtown Nashua this weekend for the chocolate, and also discover some new shops and pick out something special for their someone special,” he said.

Tickets are not necessary for the event, and patrons are able to shop and explore at their own leisure while sampling different chocolate morsels along the way.

“It seems like people are very receptive to this idea,” Shea said. “We hope it will become an annual tradition around Valentine’s Day.”

Shea said he’s optimistic patrons will spend some extra time dining in downtown Nashua during the Chocolate Stroll festivities.

Some of the establishments participating in the stroll include: Cava de Vino NH, Twill, Fresh of Nashua, Myoptic, Fortin Gage, Dress 2 Impress, beckonings, DesignWares, Purple Finch Properties, WineNot Boutique, Green Envy Spa, Scontsas Fine Jewelry, Cardin Jewelers and more.

Instead of chocolate, Gentle Dental of Nashua will be handing out free toothbrushes on Saturday.
