Keene police chief's funeral set for Friday

KEENE — A funeral Mass for Police Chief Brian Costa will be celebrated Friday at St. Bernard Church.

Costa, 46, died unexpectedly at his home in Keene on Thursday.

New Hampshire State Police said last week they are investigating the circumstances of his death, but have released no more information.

Costa was hired as a police officer with the Keene department in 1996. He was promoted to the rank of captain in June 2011 and became chief in 2015.

“I just want to send my heartfelt sympathies to Brian’s family. It’s a deep loss for the city and he will be remembered as someone who really truly cared about the community,” said City Councilor Stephen Hooper.

Calling hours for Costa will be at the Cheshire Family Funeral Chapel on Thursday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

A police walk-through for all law enforcement officers is planned to start the calling hours at 5 p.m.

Friday’s mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. at St. Bernard’s Church on Main Street. Burial is to be at Mountain View Cemetery.

The family has asked that donations to the Brian C. Costa Memorial Fund for his children be made through the Savings Bank of Walpole, P.O. Box 744, Keene, NH 03431 or any branch location.
