Alton rejects request for new fire truck

ALTON — Most of the articles on the warrant passed in Tuesday voting, though a request from the fire department for a new ladder truck failed.
The fire department asked for $850,000 for a 10-year-lease of a new aerial fire truck, and asked residents to approve the first-year payment of $125,000. But 317 residents voted against it, while 263 approved.
That leaves the department with its current ladder truck, which was built in 1989. Deputy Fire Chief Evan Turcotte said the department is not sure yet if the truck will pass inspection.
Voters also approved $124,000 to create parking and sidewalk areas on the west side of Route 11 in Alton Bay.
