NH Veterans' News: Vets' Home to celebrate holiday



TILTON — The residents of the New Hampshire Veterans Home plan to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with a wheelchair parade and entertainment featuring Irish singing and dancing.

The event will take place Friday, March 17, at 2 p.m. at the Veterans Home, 139 Winter St., Tilton.

The fun kicks off with a wheelchair parade through the halls of the facility, followed by some Irish music from performer Bernie Dougherty.

Students from the Feileacan Irish Dance Academy of Bristol will also be back again this year to help the residents celebrate.

Home to about 200, the New Hampshire Veterans Home, founded in 1890, is the only long-term care facility in the Granite State dedicated exclusively to veterans.

Pelham dinner to benefit veterans

PELHAM — The public is invited to a benefit dinner forveterans on Saturday, April 8.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. at the VFW Post located at 6 Main St., Pelham.

Admission is $8 for adults and $5 for children younger than 12.

All proceeds benefit ­veterans’ programs.

Discussion to address veterans’ challenges

NASHUA — The NH Community Veterans Advisory Board will be hosting a conversation about the challenges facing veterans and their families, and seeks to hear their concerns and suggestions.

The talk will take place Wednesday, March 29, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Harbor Homes, 45 High St., Nashua. Pizza and other refreshments will be served and childcare will be available.

The NH Community Veterans Advisory Board represents all New Hampshire veterans and is comprised of veterans, community members and VA staff.

The event is made possible, in part, through the generosity of Harbor Homes Inc.

MANCHESTER — American Legion Post 2, Sweeney Post, is having a St. Patrick’s Day dinner and dance Saturday, March 18, from 6 p.m. to midnight with the Rico Barr band. The Freese Brothers Big Band is playing Tuesday, March 21, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.

MANCHESTER — Post 43 is hosting a meal March 17 at 6 p.m., followed by an installation of officers for the Legion and Auxiliary at 7 p.m.

The women’s Auxiliary is hosting a meat raffle March 19 at 2 p.m. A light lunch will be served.

The post’s next general meeting is March 21.
