2017 has started on a high note for Amplified Arts, the new collaborative arts venue in downtown Claremont, NH.
“We moved into our office on the second floor on January first.” Said Shelly Hudson, CEO, and Producing Artistic Director of Amplified Arts LLC, the new collaborative arts venue at 31 Pleasant Street, downtown Claremont, NH. “ It has been a long time coming. We have been producing local youth theatre for two years now. But the concept of Amplified Arts has been a work in progress for some time. ” Shelly was also the founding artistic director for The Performer’s Playground, a 15yr old arts organization in Newport and has held other leadership position at arts and commerce entities across the state. But Claremont is her hometown, and she is excited to be back!
“Sullivan County already has such a vibrant arts community. Amplified Arts plans to be a resource for that community as well as a provider of opportunities for top notch arts education and performances in it’s intimate and immersive venue.”
Amplified Arts is two years into the first phase of a three-phase project. When complete, Amplified Arts will be the home of a small screening room for film screenings, an art gallery where local and regional artist can display their work and offer workshops, as well as a 150-200 seat live performance space for live theatre, music, and events.
Their second season of locally produced theatre will follow the theme of “Heart’s Desire” with productions that explore Love, Lost and Duty. The first show in the season, Shakespeare’s HAMLET will be produced by The Academy, Amplified Arts’s early career arts program for teens ages 13- 18. The Neon-Noir retelling will allow for more female roles than the typical two while staying true to the language in an hour and a half format. “We are also working again with our recent collaborator The Performer’s Playground on this immersive show that will have the audience on two sides with the actors performing in the middle… not quite in the round but a very cool immersive theatre experience.” Says Hudson, who adapted the script and will be directing the show.
Auditions will take place on Saturday, March 25th from 4-6PM at AMP’s space, the second floor at 31 Pleasant Street. The show will open Alumni Weekend JUNE 8 - 10. If you are a teen interested in auditioning for Hamlet, make sure to RSVP to to reserve your audition spot.
