Man who died at Mount Sunapee ski resort identified

NEWBURY — Local officials have provided the name of the skier who died two weeks ago at Mount Sunapee ski resort.

Newbury police identified the skier as Seabrook resident Jean Laliberte, 58.

The state medical examiner listed the death as a suicide, and said Laliberte died of multiple blunt impact injuries. Laliberte died on March 30, the second death of a skier at the mountain this season. According to his obituary, he was an avid runner and skier.

Police Chief Robert Lee identified the skier on Wednesday after the New Hamsphire Union Leader filed a Right-to-Know request this week. The newspaper had been stymied by police and the resort in its efforts to obtain the information.

The Suicide Prevention Hotline provides an online chat service and a toll-free number, (800) 273-8255, to provide support for people in distress.
