NHIAA Roundup: Londonderry softball beats BG


The Londonderry High softball team is off to a 4-0 start after defeating previously unbeaten Bishop Guertin of Nashua 2-1 in eight innings on Wednesday in Londonderry.

Val Shay doubled to lead off the eighth inning and scored on a throwing error to give the Lancers the victory. Elizabeth Devoss had two hits and scored a run for Londonderry. Neysa Ouellette drove in Bonnie Gillis for the lone BG (2-1) run. Londonderry’s Andi Nelson struck out 14 and walked two in eight innings. BG’s Bridget Soraghan also went the distance. She struck out seven and limited Londonderry to five hits.

Milford 4, Souhegan 1: In Milford, Delaney Parker struck out 11 and didn’t walk a batter to help Milford (4-0) remain unbeaten. Jen Carson hit a solo home run for the Spartans. Souhegan freshman Cam Whitney pitched a complete game and struck out eight. Mary Rotthoff had two hits and scored a run for Souhegan (2-1).

Pelham 12, Windham 0: In Pelham, Shannon Morin limited Windham to three hits in six innings and Abbey Bevens collected three hits including a solo home run to help Pelham prevail in six innings. Morin also had two hits for the Pythons (3-0). The loss dropped Windham to 2-2.

Franklin 19, Raymond 0 (5 inn.): In Raymond, Anna Doherty had three home runs and Lauren Pelletier added a three-run homer for Franklin (3-0). Frankln pitcher Hailey Haskings struck out 10 and allowed two hits in five innings. Franklin had 21 hits in the game.

White Mountains 16, Inter-Lakes 0 (5 inn.): In Meredith, White Mountains received six strikeouts from Katlyn Coulter and improved to 2-0.

Alvirne 8, Memorial 0: In Hudson, Abbey Durell, Madison Leavitt and Jackie Cardin had the lone three hits for Memorial (1-4). Kellie Kennedy of Alvirne (4-0) hurled a three-hit shutout. She walked one and fanned 11 batters.

Sunapee 8, Derryfield 4: In Manchester, RBI doubles by Kate Frederick and Faith Larpenter broke a 3-3 tie in the fifth inning and put the Lakers (3-0) ahead for good. Frederick and Larpenter were two of five players to produce two-hit games. Frederick picked up the win in the circle, allowing four runs (one earned) and three hits while striking out 15 over seven innings. Anna Welch had two hits and starter Emily Moll struck out 12 in the loss for Derryfield (0-3).

Pinkerton 6, Timberlane 5: In Derry, the Astros (4-1) walked off with a run in the seventh after tying the game in the fifth. Jess Nardozza and Abby Amato each cracked a homer as part of their respective two-hit performances for Pinkerton. Jess Mezquita posted two hits and a runs scored for Timberlane (2-2).

Baseball

Plymouth 6, Kingswood 5: In Plymouth, Nick Qualey drove in Colby Moore with the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning. Garrett Demas had three hits for the Bobcats (2-1). Plymouth received two hits from both Qualey and Mike Hogan, and two RBIs from Dylan Donahue. Owen Brickley earned the win by not allowing a hit in three innings of relief. Evan Lavoice, Sam Demay and Andy Contrada each had two hits for Kingswood (2-1).

Spaulding 4, Salem 2: In Rochester, Shaun Cormier pitched a complete game and struck out seven to lift the Red Raiders (4-1). Jake Toof and Keagan Calero each had two hits for Spaulding. Dave Robertson collected two of Salem’s four hits. Kristian Harris allowed four runs on nine hits in six innings, but three of the four runs were unearned. Salem (2-1) committed two errors in the loss.

Exeter 2, Concord 1: At Concord, a Tom Polehmus two-out single scored Kyle Maurice to break a 1-1 tie in the third inning and Bobby Cliche pitched a complete game for Exeter (3-0). Cliche allowed five hits, one run (unearned) struck out three and walked three. Exeter also scored on Kyle Ball’s RBI single that scored Cliche. Ball and Kyle Maurice each had two hits in the game. Zach Miles had two hits for Concord. Concord starter Griffin Gilbert struck out seven in 6 1/3 innings.

Belmont 7, Gilford 0: In Belmont, Cole Contigiani got the Raiders their first win with 13 strikeouts in a one-hit shutout. Contigiani added four RBIs to help his own cause while Corey Derosier and Doug Price each added an RBI. Matt Pluskis also helped the Raiders (1-2) with two runs scored and two stolen bases. Gilford is 2-1.

Goffstown 4, Pembroke 0: In Pembroke, Matt Woodward limited Pembroke to two hits and struck out 10, and the Grizzlies (3-0) took control by scoring three runs in the fifth. Pete Hunt and Ethan Smith had key hits for Goffstown. Pembroke (2-2) starting pitcher Cole Hapgood struck out six and allowed two earned runs in 4 1/3 innings.

Campbell 17, Bishop Brady 4 (5 inn.): In Concord, three Cougars posted at least three runs batted in to pace the run-rule victory. Nick Boucher had three hits and four RBIs, while Jason Neild (two hits) and Matt Gagne (three hits) had three RBIs apiece. Griffin St. Onge gave up an unearned run on two hits while striking out six over three innings to earn the win for Campbell (4-0). Bishop Brady slipped to 2-2.

Sunapee 10, Derryfield 1: In Manchester, Sunapee’s Will Austin struck out seven and held Derryfield to three hits in five innings, but he walked five and hit three batters. Oliver Simon drove in Alex Alfano for Derryfield’s only run.

Epping 13, Nute 0: In Milton, Noah Armstrong pitched a complte game and had three hits and three RBIs to lead the Blue Devils (1-1). Armstrong surrendered two hits amd struck out four. Nute dropped to 1-3.

Merrimack 12, Trinity 4: In Manchester, Andrew Michaud and Nick Dutton each posted three hits and two RBIs to lead the Tomahawks (2-2), who scored six runs in the fifth inning to break the game open. Alvin Costa added two RBIs for Merrimack while Justin Grassini struck out six over 4 1/3 innings for the victory. Trinity (2-2) got two hits and an RBI from Brody Dupuis while Mike Montembault added a solo homer.

Boys’ lacrosse

Pinkerton 12, Billerica (Mass.) 7: In Derry, Mason Drouin collected three goals and an assist to help Pinkerton remain unbeaten after five games. Ryan Auger, Chad Teresky, Tom Sweeney and Chris Valentine each scored twice for the Astros, who also got a goal from Connor Delea. Pinkerton goalie Alex Sturgess made 10 saves.

Derryfield 15, St. Thomas 1: In Dover, Connor Glosner scored three goals and assisted on five others to lead the Cougars (3-0). Derryfield received four goals from Eric Mayer, three from Jon MacLean, two from both Lee Sipes and John Anderson, and one from Robbie Dowst. Derryfield goalie Avery Truex made eight saves. Andrew Geppert scored for St. Thomas (1-2), which received seven saves from Dominic Schultz.

Trinity 9, Campbell 6: In Manchester, Jimmy Kosiarski scored four goals and Ethan Messner collected two goals and an assist for the Pioneers (1-2). Freshman goalie Owen McNichols made 15 saves to collect his first varsity win. Colby Wilson scored three goals for Campbell (0-3).

Girls’ lacrosse

Windham 20, Pembroke 0: In Pembroke, Annie MacLeod and Emma Lindquist each scored five goals for the Jaguars (3-0). Ryane Farrell added four goals.

Souhegan 12, Portsmouth 2: In Amherst, Souhegan (4-0) defeated Portsmouth (3-2) behind Brigid Casey (three goals, two assists), Sammi Jay (three goals, two assists) and Savannah Behn and Abby Cranney, both with two goals. Emma Estabrook, Hannah Rowe, Izzy Aiello and Clare Woodford each scored once. Gracie Getman scored the two goals for Portsmouth. Souhegan goalie Meaghan Allard had 10 saves.

Boys’ volleyball

Pinkerton 3, Bishop Guertin 0: In Derry, Cobi Moore had 24 assists, nine service points, six aces and six kills while Ty Behsman collected 10 kills and 17 digs. Kujan Patel amassed 37 digs and Hunter Hazard added eight kills; Matt Fabrizio had five blocks, Sean Galusha accumulated five kills and two blocks while Brian Castle had 12 assists.
