Lead paint cronyism

May 17. 2017 9:44PM

To the Editor: Senate Bill 247 is currently in the House Finance Committee and will come back for a vote on the House floor. For those who don’t know this bill is to prevent childhood lead poisoning by subsidizing slumlords.

This bill is cronyism at its worse. The law will set aside $3 million a year in order to give landlords (not homeowners) the money to upgrade their properties. They say the bill is “for the children,” but what they mean is this bill is only for the children that rent from our friends. My children are at risk because I’m a homeowner with a house built in 1940,

But my children cannot access any of that money because I am not a landlord. Please tell your representatives not to support this cronyism and to vote against this bill.
