Standing for free speech

To the Editor: Freedom of speech is guaranteed in the U.S. Constitution under the First Amendment. Likewise, under the Second Amendment, our right to bear arms is reaffirmed.
We need to always protect the power of the pen and the right to free speech. We as a nation are slowly giving up this right out of fear to speak out against injustice, even to the point of not allowing others of different points of view to express those views without threats of retaliation.
One example is the killing of several people in Paris after a satirical magazine published drawings and articles against violent Muslims. We might have not agreed with the news group about the content, but we respected their right to free expression.
The radical Muslim terrorists take extremist action against the news group by trying to destroy the writings of the pen, by using guns to make their despicable point.
All freedom-loving people should be appalled by these brutal acts and call these actions for what they are, terrorists act against free people.
We should have concern that even in America those who try to force political correctness of our speech will curtail free speech. Pray that the people will be smart enough not to embrace too much political correctness, so we as a nation lose our freedom of speech and expression, including the will to defend ourselves.
