Thunder finish off sweep of Fisher Cats
Gleyber Torres and Jake Cave each hit a two-run homer to lead the Trenton Thunder past the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, 9-2, Thursday in an Eastern League contest at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium before 6,136 fans. Trenton (24-14) completed a three-game sweep of New Hampshire (12-27).
Ryan McBroom’s second homer in two days, a two-run shot in the sixth inning, provided the only runs allowed by Thunder starting pitcher Ronald Herrera (4-0). He allowed four hits, walked one and fanned one.
Billy McKinney (fourth inning) and Miguel Andujar (fifth inning) each had a solo homer for Trenton. Thairo Estrada had three of Trenton’s 12 hits.
Two New Hampshire players made successful Double-A debuts. Catcher Michael De La Cruz had three singles and reliever Andrew Case worked 1 1/3-innings in relief, allowing just one hit.
Kender Villegas added two scoreless innings with two strikeouts for the Fisher Cats.
New Hampshire opens a three-game series in Reading, Pa., Friday as Shane Dawson (1-5, 5.63) is scheduled to start the opener.
The Fisher Cats return home Monday against the Portland Sea Dogs for a 6:35 p.m. encounter.
