LEBANON - A timely tip from Vermont law enforcement led the arrest of two local men late last month with a combined 180 bags of heroin.

According to Lebanon police, the arrests took place about 4 p.m. on June 27, after Drug Task Force members spotted a man they had been informed was making a drug run to Massachusetts in the parking lot of a local pharmacy.

“The Drug Task Force was investigating information they had received from Hartford, Vt. police about a man, Jason Laro, of Lebanon, who was believed to be traveling to Holyoke, Mass. to pick up a quantity of heroin and bring it back to the Upper Valley,” Lebanon police said in a statement Thursday. “The DTF located Laro’s car as it returned to Lebanon. While they were waiting for the Lebanon police to respond to the area, they witnessed the suspect meet with another male and watched as there was an exchange.”

Officers moved in and detained both men, identified as Laro and Tory Roberts, both of Lebanon.

Roberts, police said, admitted to having just purchased heroin from Laro and turned over 40 bags and both men were arrested. When police then searched Laro’s vehicle they found another 140 stamp bags of heroin.

Roberts is charged with possession of a controlled drug, a class B felony. He was released on $10,000 personal recognizance bond and will be arraigned July 10 in Grafton County Superior Court.

Laro is charged with sale of a controlled drug and possession of a controlled drug in a motor vehicle with intent to sell. He was ordered held in lieu of $10,000 cash bail and will be arraigned June 28 in Grafton County Superior Court.
