MANCHESTER — The New Hampshire Fisher Cats made sure to give starting pitcher Sean Reid-Foley plenty of run support early on Sunday at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.

The Fisher Cats scored the game’s first four runs in the home half of the first inning on their way to a 10-3 triumph over the Portland Sea Dogs in front of 5,780 fans.

The Fisher Cats (37-56) added three more runs in the fifth inning to take a 7-2 advantage into the sixth frame. New Hampshire capped its scoring with a three-run seventh inning.

New Hampshire’s production at the plate helped Reid-Foley (6-7) earn the win. The right-hander allowed three earned runs on four hits and two walks and struck out three over six innings.

“Getting those extra runs really helps a lot in the back of my head but you’ve always got to go out — even if you don’t have your best stuff — and act like you’ve got your best stuff,” Reid-Foley said. “You’ve just always got to want to win and compete and I love competing.”

Reid-Foley sent Portland (43-47) down in order in each of the first three innings before surrendering two runs in the fourth.

“This game is a game of momentum and when you score runs, multiple runs, and put up a zero the next inning, it just really helps out a lot,” Fisher Cats manager Gary Allenson said.

Portland starter Henry Owens, once a hot prospect but now trying to find his control — and his way back to the majors — did himself no favors. In four innings, the lefty who started 16 games for Boston in 2015 and 2016 allowed six earned runs on six hits and six walks. Owens, 1-2 in three starts with Portland since being demoted by Triple-A Pawtucket, struck out two

Danny Jansen opened the game’s scoring with a single to right field that scored Jonathan Davis. Tim Lopes (3-for-4) drew a bases-loaded walk to build a 2-0 New Hampshire advantage. Gunnar Heidt (four RBIs) gave the Fisher Cats a 4-0 lead when he ripped a one-out, two-run double just over Sea Dogs left fielder Danny Mars’ head.

All three of New Hampshire’s runs in the fifth inning were scored with two outs. Derrick Loveless was responsible for two runs thanks to his soft single to right field that scored Harold Ramirez and Lopes. Loveless crossed home plate on Davis’ line-drive single to right field to make it 7-2 Fisher Cats.

Portland’s Michael Chavis hit a solo home run over the right field fence and out of the park in the sixth inning that drew Portland within four runs.

New Hampshire’s three-run seventh capped the game’s scoring. Heidt (2-for-4) blasted a two-run home run over the right field fence and Richard Urena hit an RBI single to center field in the frame.

Chavis’ sacrifice fly to left field in the fourth inning put the Sea Dogs on the scoreboard. Cole Sturgeon cut the Fisher Cats’ lead to 4-2 when he scored from third base on a Jeremy Barfield ground out later in the frame.

Carlos Ramirez and Justin Shafer combined for three innings of scoreless relief for the Fisher Cats. The two relievers each allowed one hit and struck out two batters.

“It almost looked like we left (Portland) in the game there and all of a sudden it was a 4-2 game,” Allenson said. “But you can’t forget that it is a nine-inning game there and we kind of put it away late.”

The Fisher Cats open a three-game home series with the Reading Fightin Phils tonight at 7:05. Right-hander Conner Greene (4-6, 4.37 ERA) is projected to start for New Hampshire. Righty Drew Anderson (5-3, 3.56 ERA), Philadelphia’s No. 20 prospect according to, is expected to start for Reading.
