August 09. 2017 10:25PM

LINCOLN — A 56-year-old Massachusetts woman had to be carried off Hi-Cannon Trail Wednesday after she injured her lower leg, Fish and Game officials said.

Karen Hannan of Lowell was taken to a waiting ambulance at the trail head at 5 p.m. and transported to Speare Memorial Hospital in Plymouth, officials said.

The Pemi-Valley Search and Rescue and the Appalachian Mountain Club, along with two Fish and Game conservation officers, responded to the 4 p.m. call for help. They found Hannon a little over a half-mile from the Lafayette Campground in Franconia Notch State Park.

Fish and Game officials used the rescue to remind outdoor enthusiasts that they are encouraged to purchase a Hike Safe card at wildnh.com/safe. The card helps support Fish and Game search-and-rescue activities.
