NH College Roundup: UNH men's hoops to visit Florida, Texas in nonconference action

The University of New Hampshire men’s basketball team has two Power 5 teams on its nonconference schedule for the upcoming season, which was announced Wednesday.

The Wildcats will be at Texas on Nov. 14 and at Florida on Nov. 19 Other road games include Furman on Nov. 24 and Utah State on Nov. 25, with both games at Nashville, Tenn. UNH will also travel to Holy Cross on Dec. 9, George Washington on Dec. 20 and Fairfield on Dec. 22.

The home schedule includes Wheelock (Nov. 10), American (Nov. 21), Boston University (Nov. 29), Bryant (Dec. 2), Niagara (Dec. 5), Lyndon State (Dec. 16) and Dartmouth (Dec. 30).

Women’s basketball

The UNH women’s basketball team opens its schedule at Xavier of the Big East on Nov 11.

The Wildcats will also play Boston College of the ACC on the road on Dec. 17.

UNH opens the home schedule against Boston University on Nov. 15. The Wildcats are then at home for games against Colby-Sawyer on Nov. 29 (doubleheader with men’s game against Boston University), Northeastern on Dec. 1, Manhattan on Dec. 9 and Cornell on Dec. 29.

Field hockey

UNH: The Wildcats were picked third in the East Division of the America East in the league’s preseason poll.

St. Anselm: The Hawks were tabbed as the preseason favorite in the Northeast-10 Conference.

St, Anselm, which won its first-ever NE10 regular-season championship before advancing to the NE10 Championship title game and the national semifinals last season, earned six first-place votes to top the poll.

The Hawks have 18 returners from last season’s team that finished a program-best 17-5 and 10-2 in NE10 play.

SNHU: Coming off its finest season in program history, the Southern New Hampshire University field hockey was picked to finish eighth in the 2017 Northeast-10 Conference Field Hockey Preseason Coaches’ Poll.

Southern New Hampshire turned in a nine-win campaign that included the program’s first five Northeast-10 Conference triumphs in 2016.

The Penmen kick off season Thursday, Aug. 31 when they host Bentley on Larkin Field at 6 p.m.
