Fisher Cats split doubleheader with Curve

Altoona scored three runs in the top of the sixth to take a 7-5 win over the New Hampshire Fisher Cats in the opener of an Eastern League doubleheader Saturday night. The Fisher Cats came back to win the nightcap, 5-1.

The Curve had two on with two out when Jerrick Suiter singled to right off reliever Dusty Isaacs to score the tying run. Jordan George followed with a double to score Suiter and Pablo Reyes to put Altoona in front, 7-5.

Six of the runs were charged to starter Sean Reid-Foley, who went 5 1/3 innings. All the runs were earned as he allowed 11 hits and walked three. He struck out five.

Altoona jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first as Anderson Feliz doubled home Reyes, and Suiter hit a two-run homer to right, scoring Feliz.

The Fisher Cats countered with three of their own in the second. With the bases loaded and none out, Derrick Loveless grounded into a double play to score Emilio Guerrero. Jonathan Davis followed with an RBI triple, and Richard Urena followed that up with an RBI double to tie the score.

Altoona took a 4-3 lead on a Feliz RBI groundout, but New Hampshire went ahead with two in the fifth. Reese McGuire hit a solo homer with two out, and Loveless later in the inning singled home Guerrero to make it 5-4.

Reid-Foley (8-11) took the loss. Brandon Cumpton (3-3) got the win with two-thirds of an inning of scoreless relief, allowing one hit.

Austin Coley started for Altoona, going 4 1/3 innings, allowing all five runs on 10 hits. He walked three and fanned two. Tate Scioneaux earned his 13th save with a scoreless seventh.

In the second game, Lourdes Gurriel staked New Hampshire to a 2-0 lead with a first-inning home run, Emilio Guerrero singled home Anthony Alford and Gunnar Heidt scored Gurriel on a sacrifice fly in the fourth to double the advantage. Guerrero doubled home Gurriel in the sixth.

Justin Maffei's RBI single in the fifth brought in Altoona's lone run.

Connor Greene (5-9) earned the win for New Hampshire with five innings of four-hit, one-run ball. he struck out three and walked two. Andrew Case earned his seventh save, getting the final two outs to squelch at Altoona rally. Casey Sadler (1-3) took the loss for Altoona. He allowed four runs on five hits. He fanned eight.

The series ends today at 1:35 p.m. J.T. Brubaker (7-4, 4.51) starts for Altoon while Ryan Borucki (1-3, 2.16) starts for the Fisher Cats.
