Fisher Cats rout Fightin Phils

Tim Lopes drove in three runs to lead the New Hampshire Fisher Cats to an 8-2 Eastern League win over the Reading Fightin Phils Wednesday before 4,688 fans at FirstEnergy Stadium in Reading, Pa.

Lopes drove in New Hampshire’s first run with a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning, contributed an RBI double during a five-run seventh frame and walked with the bases loaded in the ninth.

The Fisher Cats tied the game 2-2 in the fifth inning when Gunnar Heidt doubled and scored on a ground out from third base by Richard Urena. In the five-run seventh frame for New Hampshire, Heidt scored the go-ahead on one of four errors in the game by Reading. A wild pitch plated the second run in the inning and Urena scored the third run on a ground out. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. plated Anthony Alford with a double before Lopes doubled home the last run.

New Hampshire starter Connor Greene threw 101 pitches and lasted 4 2/3 innings, allowing six hits and two runs with three walks and four strikeouts. Kender Villegas (2-3) got the win in relief. Alford is batting .306 this season. New Hampshire hit into four double plays, were outhit 10-8 and still won the game to go to 57-78 on the season.

New Hampshire needs to win four of its last five games to avoid posting its worst season in franchise history since arriving in Manchester in 2004. The two teams close out their series today at 6:35 p.m.
