Keene forum to address city's opioid crisis, panhandlers

September 11. 2017 8:48PM

KEENE — The city’s opioid crisis and increasingly aggressive panhandlers are the topics of a community forum planned to take place tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Keene High School auditorium.

Randy Filiault, a city councilor at-large, reached out to Mayor Kendall Lane about holding a forum after a July 22 Facebook post of a photo of two men sitting on a bench near a children’s playground in downtown Keene went viral. The woman who posted the photo said one of the men was slumped over with a needle in his arm and that they asked her for money.

The forum is to allow the public to vent about the problem, ask public officials questions and talk about solutions, according to Filiault.
