PORTSMOUTH — A record number of retailers participated in the seventh annual Fashion’s Night Out event organized by The Chamber Collaborative of Greater Portsmouth.
The Thursday evening event brought hundreds of people to downtown Portsmouth for shopping and a fashion show. At Popovers on the Square in Market Square, people posed for photographers in front of a backdrop designed for the event, according to organizers.
“We saw a record number of men and women dressed up for the evening, showing fashion and style. You could feel the excitement at Popovers as the crowd gathered for paparazzi pictures and to pick up maps listing all the participating shops and their special offerings. What a fun night!” said Valerie Rochon, who is the president of The Chamber Collaborative.
The owner of City Shoes, Cathy Reddington, said there was a special excitement in the air.
“There was so much buzz and energy around town,” Reddington said.
Models from 11 local shops strutted their stuff wearing collections curated by local independent shop owners at the fashion show held at Portsmouth Gas Light on Market Street. Patrick Darrow Productions was in charge of narrating the runway show. Rick Dumont Images captured the runway excitement, according to organizers.
Entry fees from the show, totaling $760, were presented to Jennie Halstead, executive director of My Breast Cancer Support in Portsmouth, at the end of the evening.
Organizers said more than 230 people were at the nightcap party and fashion show.
“We had a great turnout and a full house. The Fashion Show was very successful,” Kali Aselton of Portsmouth Gas Light said.
