High School Roundup: Memorial boys make it two in a row

Tough times appear to be coming to an end for the Manchester Memorial boys’ soccer team. After an 0-5 start, the Crusaders have won two in a row following Tuesday’s 1-0 win over host Alvirne of Hudson. Gerson Mejia’s goal in the 53rd minute gave Memorial, coming off its 2-1 win against Keene, its second straight victory. Mejia received a cross off a corner from Rodrigo Rodriguez and headed it home. Gavin Ferry had two saves in the win and was supported in front by defenders Ahmed Selimovic, Noah Munroe, Kevin Minueza and Taylor Fournier. Jamie Bertrand had seven saves for Alvirne (0-8), which picked up solid midfield play from Garrett Lambert and Charlie Thomas. Memorial will take its momentum into Friday’s city clash against Central.

Concord 3, Salem 0: In Concord, Sebastian Pardo, Josh Adams and Taylor Silverstein scored to lead Concord past the Blue Devils. For the Crimson Tide (6-2). Liam Devanny had six saves to earn the shutout. Anthony Bellomo had six saves for Salem (6-1), which entered the game undefeated and having allowed one goal with five shutouts.

Bedford 2, Winnacunnet 0: In Bedford, the Bulldogs (6-1) were led by Charley Speaker with a goal and an assist. Austin Edwards also scored in the first half, assisted by Mark Keiffer. Bedford’s defense was led by Ben Como and Bryon Peters in front of goalie Aidan Wisherd. Winnacunnet is 1-6.

Trinity 3, Milford 1: In Manchester, Trinity’s Dom DiZillo scored two goals as the Pioneeers earned their first win. They are 1-6-1. Chris Bourn also scored for Trinity. Milford is 0-7.

Windham 3, ConVal 0: In Windham, the Jaguars remained undefeated at 7-0 behind a trio of goal scorers. Allan Tsao, Jake Morgan and Mike Blaschuck found the net for Windham while Ben Wentworth made four saves. ConVal dropped to 3-4.

Hopkinton 4, Mascoma Valley 2: In Canaan, Gerry Donahue produced two more goals as the Hawks improved to 7-0. Zach Signor and Dustin Rose added a tally apiece between Donahue’s goals. James Disbrow scored for Mascoma Valley (5-2-1).

Pinkerton 3, Dover 0: In Dover, the Astros had Brian Castle, Alex Rust and Terry Coyle score while running their record to 3-4. Max Fairbank posted the shutout with three saves for Pinkerton. Dover is 2-5.

Campbell 5, Mascenic 4: In New Ipswich, David Latsha closed the comeback win for Campbell with his goal in the final minutes of regulation. Justin Furlong scored two of his four goals in the final 10 minutes to help the Cougars (4-4) overcome a two-goal deficit. Mascenic is 3-3-1.

Londonderry 3, Merrimack 0: In Londonderry, Josh Ryan opened the scoring for the Lancers (6-0-1) and then assisted on the other two scores. Josh Rutina and Luca Amerena each had a finish of Ryan’s helpers. Alex Hufford made eight saves while blanking Merrimack (2-6).

Manchester Central 5, Spaulding 1: In Rochester, Griffin Hamel and Nidal Almaree scored twice apiece to run the Little Green’s record to 8-0. Joshue Assantha had the other tally for Central while goalie Alex Hall and Glaudi Bangasimbo combined for three saves. Spaulding is 0-8.

Lebanon 6, Kennett 0: In Conway, the Raiders (6-2) have now reeled off six wins in a following their rout of the Eagles (0-4-3). Owen Johnstone, Nate Chickering, Patrick Mason, Luke Sandmann and Brodie McPherson scored goals for Lebanon, which got three saves from goalie Chris Nulty for the shutout.

Girls’ soccer

Bedford 1, Winnacunnet 1: In Hampton, McKenzie MacEachern scored in the 76th minute to keep Bedford unbeaten at 5-0-2. Winnacunnet, on a first-half goal from Caroline Meuse, is 4-1-1 on the season.

Goffstown 2, Coe-Brown 1: In Northwood, Lilly Proulx and Mandi Dovas each had a goal and an assist for the Grizzlies (4-3). Angie Caldwell had 22 saves in goal for Goffstown and Mackenzie McKenna had eight for the Bears (3-5).

Alvirne 3, Manchester Memorial 0: In Manchester, Ashley Lecomte scored on a header from Emily Lizotte for the early lead. Lizotte and Brenna Paquette tallied goals, assists coming from Rose Boudreau and Abbey Dubois. Brittney Whiting had four saves for Alvirne. Jamie Calvagna and Kathryn Wiggins played well for Alvirne (4-3). Memorial is 2-3-1.

John Stark 8, Kingswood 0: In Wolfeboro, four goals in each half kept the Generals among the undefeated at 6-0-1. Cara Easter had two goals and three assists for John Stark, which also got goals from Aria Ulmer, Abby Brandt, Chelsea Woodsum, Meg Blanchette, Sara Nikias and Elizabeth Downing.

Bishop Guertin 1, Timberlane 0: In Plaistow, Katie Bramlett’s goal earned BG its first win of the season and improved its record to 1-6. Timberlane is 2-3-1.

Londonderry 4, Merrimack 2: At Global Premier Soccer in Bedford, the Lancers (4-3) scored four times in 17 minutes in the second half to earn their win. Alyssa Anderson, Gwen Barnes, Laurel Goding and Bella Cossette each scored for Londonderry. Merrimack (2-6) got a goal each from Abby Morgan and Jenna Chambers.

Manchester Central 9, Spaulding 0: In Manchester, seven players scored goals for Central (6-1), which posted four goals over the first 40 minutes. Gabby Paradis and Erin Flurey each came away with a pair of goals while Paige LaBerge, Maddy Tremblay, Katie Boyle, Nadege Masubuko and Lindsay LeBlond offered up single goals. Goalies Hannah Autenreith and Matara Tamzarian combined for the shutout for Central. Spaulding is 0-8.


Farmington 3, Epping 1: In Epping on Monday, Gabi Hughes had three aces, seven kills, 49 digs, and one assist for 1-3 Epping against 5-0 Farmington. Junior middle hitter Anna Re had two aces, nine kills, 32 digs, and one block. Sophomore setter Oakley Lustenberger had one kill, nine digs and 25 assists.

Alvirne 3, Manchester Memorial 2: On Monday in Hudson, Alvirne (2-4) was led by Liz DeRosa, who had 11 service points and 30 kills. Morgan Smith added 10 service points and 40 assists while Cynnaea Clay collected eight service points and 17 digs. Emily Elston added seven kills. Memorial is 1-6.
