To the Editor: Sockstober has been a tradition at the Inter-Lakes High School for three years, started by Ms. Brusseau and her freshmen class and then taken over by the ILHS Interact Club. In the past three years, ILHS has collected more than 3,000 pairs of socks. With your help, we would like to collect more than 20,000 pairs of socks this year.
Sockstober is a sock drive to donate socks to our neighbors who are suffering from homelessness or displaced due to domestic violence. The reason we do this is because when most people donate items they tend to be jackets, pants, shirts, and food, but many forget how important socks are.
Socks keep your feet clean and dry, they protect you from the cold, and many of our neighbors who suffer from homelessness don’t have pairs of socks to change into. The feedback we have received from the shelters is that socks fly off the shelves and they never have enough. Another comment was when new socks are put on the individual can’t stop smiling.
We ask you to join us in our attempts to collect and donate more than 20,000 pairs of socks this year. If your school decides to participate, please email ILHS Interact Club Adviser Laura Brusseau and ILHS Student and Sock Drive Coordinator Simon Bird at firstname.lastname@example.org and email@example.com .
We would love pictures of you and the socks that you collected. We hope you join us this year.
