High School Roundup: Central boys No. 8 in national ranking

The Manchester Central boys’ soccer team is ranked eighth nationally and first in the New England region in the latest USA Today High School Sports Super 25 Expert Rankings. At the time the latest poll was released Tuesday, Central sported a 7-0 record and was ranked first in the NHIAA Division I standings.
Since then, Central defeated Spaulding of Rochester on Tuesday to improve to 8-0. The Little Green will face city rival Memorial (1-5) today at 4 p.m. at Gill Stadium.
“It’s nice to get some team recognition, especially from a national poll like USA Today,” said Central head coach Chris LaBerge. “I know our players are proud of it.”
Bishop Brady 2, Sanborn 1: Bishop Brady of Concord is on a winning streak. Freshman Ando Fleurant scored through traffic in the box following a free kick in the 79th minute to lift the Green Giants to a 2-1 win against Sanborn of Kingston in Concord.
Bishop Brady, in winning its second straight game after dropping its first four, opened the game scoring when Colin Plante tallied in the 17th minute. Sanborn (3-4-1) answered with a goal from Alex Senko in the 30th minute. Bryce Johnson made 10 saves for the Green Giants. Luc Le-Blanc had two saves for the Indians.
Hanover 6, Alvirne 0: In Hudson, the Marauders (5-4) climbed over the .500 mark behind three goals from Charlie Adams. Liam Collins added one goal and two assists. Aiden Rowley and Owen Stadheim each had a goal and Henry Kahl had two assists, giving him seven for the season. On defense, Brendan Brigham, Colm Seigne, Eli Stack and Latham Allison each played well in front of goalie Joey Perras. Jamie Bertrand had five saves for Alvirne.
Alvirne 3, Merrimack 1: In Hudson on Wednesday, Alvirne (3-4) was led by Liz DeRosa with 20 kills and 9 digs. Cynnaea Clay had 12 digs and Morgan Smith amassed 31 assists. Merrimack fell to 1-7.
Epping 3, Nute 1: In Milton Wednesday, Epping (2-3) was led by junior middle hitter Anna Re, who had five aces, 11 kills, nine digs, and four blocks. Senior outside hitter Marissa Adams had nine aces, one kill and 16 digs. Sophomore outside hitter Hayley Pelletier had 10 kills and two digs. Sophomore middle hitter Belle Snyder collected 17 digs, two kills and two blocks. Nute is 3-3.
Salem 3, Bishop Guertin 1: In Salem, Julia Pascucci contributed five kills, 10 assists and 14 digs for BG, which suffered its first loss in seven matches. Mariana Gomez added 22 digs and five kills. Salem is 6-2.
