Science center plans Halloween Hoot ’N Howl
HOLDERNESS — Squam Lakes Natural Science Center will host its annual Halloween Hoot ’N Howl from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14.
Visitors will enjoy an eerily entertaining 40-minute guided tour around the Science Center grounds. Trail walks feature live skits with a seasonal theme and depart every 10 minutes from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Come in costume and dress suitably for outdoor weather. After the tour, visitors can warm up with Halloween games and tasty treats. Reservations are required in advance by calling 603-968-7194 x7.
Cost: $8 for members; $11 for non-members.

Up Close to Animals
Meet live animals up close and learn about them from an experienced naturalist educator at the Squam Lakes Center. These engaging talks at the amphitheater feature a variety of different animals, including birds, mammals, and reptiles. Programs are offered daily from July through Labor Day and on weekends through Columbus Day. Visit nhnature.org for full animal schedule of other times.
Up Close to Animals presentations are included in regular trail admission.
Nature play time
Squam Lakes Center holds a nature program for children ages 2 and 3 on Wednesday, Oct. 11, from 11 a.m. to noon. Join a naturalist for some unstructured play in nature. The program will set the stage for fun so participants can laugh and explore the forests, fields, and ponds of the Science Center together. The program is held outdoors; dress for the weather. Adults get to play, too. An adult must participate with children at no additional cost.
Cost: $5/ member child; $7/non-member child
