NHIAA Roundup: Central beats Bedford in field hockey; first loss for Pinkerton

Manchester Central scored a come-from-behind win Monday.

Second-half goals by Cam Casey and Gabby Leonard led the Little Green to a 2-1 Division I field hockey win against Bedford at Gill Stadium in Manchester.

Central improved to 4-1-2 while Bedford lost its third straight match to fall to 2-5.

Emily O’Keefe gave Bedford the early lead in the first half. Casey tied the match with 25:28 left and Leonard, on an assist from Annie Kew, scored the game-winner from the top of the circle with 23:59 to play.

Central outshot Bedford 14-4. Little Green keeper Julie Pariseau had three saves and Bedford goalie Rachel Noble had 12 saves. Abby Conrad, Abby Burns, and Lily O’Connell controlled the middle of the field defensively for Central.

Dover 1, Pinkerton 0: In Derry, Lizzy Morse scored the only goal in the first half on a penalty stroke as Dover handed Pinkerton Academy its first loss. Pinkerton held an 11-3 edge in corners against the Green Wave (4-3-2). Pinkerton goalie Khaliyah Ellis along with Lily Auger, Jess Shatford, Whitney O’Brien and Sarah Collins all played well on defense.

Windham 3, Goffstown 1: In Goffstown against the 4-4 Grizzlies, the 9-1 Jaguars received goals from Kate Blaisdell, Madi Connelly and Taryn Livingston.

Assists were registered by Ryane Farrell, Mary Johnson and Lex Slaski. Windham goalie Abby Harris had seven saves.

For Goffstown, Ali Larochelle scored the lone goal, assisted by Molly Jorzcak. Goffstown keeper Mackenzie Potvin had 15 saves.

Boys’ soccer

Manchester West 3, Milford 1: In Manchester Friday, West improved to 4-4-1 at the expense of 0-8 Milford. Hunter Lortie had a hat trick and Will Nichols tallied the lone goal for Milford.

Girls’ soccer

Nashua South 3, Merrimack 1: In Nashua, the Panthers improved to 6-3. Abby Morgan had the lone goal for 2-7 Merrimack.

Football

Bishop Guertin 33, Keene 0: Quarterback Sam Raitt threw for a touchdown and ran for two, leading the Bishop Guertin football team to its first win of the season, 33-0 over Keene, in a Division I football game on Monday night in Nashua. The Cardinals are 1-3, while the Blackbirds dropped to 0-4.

Volleyball

Pinkerton 3, Manchester Memorial 0: In Derry, Pinkerton (8-1) beat the Crusaders (2-7) behind Sara Metzger, who had 22 service points and 21 assists. Amelia Graves amassed 11 kills and 13 digs while Brooke Kane had seven kills. Ella Dandrade contributed 13 digs and six kills. Paige King and Sydney Robinson each had six service points for Memorial in the loss.

Epping 3, Belmont 1: In Belmont, Epping (4-3) was led by Gabi Hughes with five kills, one assist, one block and 36 digs. Marissa Adams collected three aces, four kills, and 21 digs. Belle Snyder had one ace, five kills and 17 digs. Oakley Lustenberger amassed five aces, three kills, three digs and 29 assists. Belmont dropped to 3-5.

Winnisquam 3, Campbell 2: In Litchfield, Campbell (6-1) dropped its first match of the season to undefeated Winnisquam (8-0) of Tilton. Gabi Sott had 17 kills and five digs and Cassidy Gibbons collected two aces, eight kills, two digs and three blocks in the loss. Merceides Diaz amassed two aces, three kills, two digs and two blocks for Campbell while teammate Mary Kuczkowski had 33 assists and two blocks.

Hollis/Brookline 3, Bishop Guertin 1: In Hollis, BG (7-2) lost to the 8-0 Cavaliers, who were led by Kyra Belden (six aces, 40 assists), Maddie Norris (14 kills, five aces), Elizabeth Atkinson (19 kills), Maren Anderson (three aces) and Sammie Sheppard with five aces and 19 digs. Leading BG were Paola Matos and Mariana Gomez, each with 17 digs. Julia Pascucci had six kills and 11 assists while Eileen Valente had nine digs.

Salem 3, Londonderry 0: In Derry, Salem (8-2) defeated Londonderry (3-7). Leading the Lancers were Maddie Sanborn with nine kills and Anna Haas with 16 assists. Josie Collins and Meghan Brown each had seven service points and Britney Clark had eight digs.
