NH Colleges: UNH up to 13th

A potent passing game against Bryant University on Saturday allowed the University of New Hampshire to gain ground in the weekly polls released on Monday.

In the STATS FCS Poll, the Wildcats jumped two spots, to No. 13, and in the FCS Coaches' Poll, they're up one spot, to 13th.

Junior quarterback Trevor Knight of Amherst and junior receiver Neil O'Connor hooked up for three touchdown pass plays in UNH's 45-17 win on Saturday. Knight completed 17-of-29 pass attempts for 318 yards and three touchdowns for the 4-1 Wildcats. O'Connor's career-high three touchdown catches, two of them in the fourth quarter, covered 52, 19 and 22 yards. He finished with seven catches for 154 yards. Knight has passed for three touchdowns in each of the last three games.

James Madison (5-0), the defending FCS national champ, stayed at No. 1 in both polls.

PSU 9th in N.E. Div. III

The Plymouth State University football team is ranked ninth in the weekly Grinold Chapter New England Division III football rankings released Monday.

The Panthers earned 34 points, two points behind MIT for the eighth place spot. Springfield College remains in the top spot with 10 first-place votes (145 points) ahead of Framingham State University with five first-place votes (136 points).

The Panthers (4-1) improved to 2-1 in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference with Saturday's 16-6 win at Worcester State. They host Bridgewater State on Saturday afternoon.
