MANCHESTER — Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium has acquired Cate and Johnson Funeral Home, an independently owned, family-run funeral home that has operated in Manchester for close to 100 years, the companies announced Wedneday.

All Cate and Johnson pre-arranged services will be honored and held at the Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium locations.

“If families have questions about their existing arrangements with Cate and Johnson, I encourage them to call me personally,” Arthur “Buddy” Phaneuf, president and CEO, Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium, said in a statement. All Cate and Johnson website obituaries will be preserved onto the Phaneuf site, he said.

Mark Johnson, owner and operator of Cate and Johnson Funeral Home, said he knew it was a good time to consider a transition when he found buyers for both the building at 573 Pine St. and the business.

“When a young couple became interested in our property on Pine Street in Manchester to develop for residential and professional use, we saw it as a win-win opportunity,” Johnson said in a statement. He will join Phaneuf Funeral Homes as funeral director.
