MERRIMACK - A furnace problem forced the evacuation of Reeds Ferry Elementary School Thursday afternoon.

Police and fire crews arrived at the school shortly before noon to investigate a smell from the furnace.

“All students have been safely evacuated and there are no injuries reported,” police said in a statement. “For the safety of the students and staff of Reeds Ferry Elementary School, everyone is being transported to Thornton's Ferry Elementary School.”

According to police, school buses will take all students home at the usual time. Authorities said there could be slight delays dropping students off at their bus stops.

According to the school district's website, a mechanic is at the school trying to determine the problem.
