October 05. 2017 8:31AM

ALBANY - Two hikers from Switzerland needed help off Mt. Chocorua Wednesday evening after losing the trail and calling for help about 5:45 p.m.

Rafael Arranz, 44, and Celia Deutch, 46, of Rmeinfelden, Switzerland, were found about 700 feet off the West Side Trail just after 10 p.m. by Fish and Game conservation officers, in a densely vegetated, steep area, officials said.

The officers had hiked in about 3.8 miles on the Champney Falls Trail before finding the pair, who were cold, hungry and thirst, officials said.

Conservation officers helped the two back to the Champney Falls trailhead, arriving there at 12:40 a.m.
