College Hockey: UNH blanks Colgate

DURHAM — So far, so good for the University of New Hampshire men’s hockey team.

Freshman defenseman Max Gildon scored a pair of goals and senior goalie Danny Tirone stopped 23 shots as the Wildcats blanked ECAC member Colgate 5-0 on Friday night at the Whittemore Center.

UNH, 3-0 overall, hosts Colgate again tonight at 7 p.m.

Gildon scored the first and final goals of the night, the first one on a power play at 12:04 of the first period and the second one during 6-on-6 in the second period. Shane Eiserman, Jason Salvaggio and freshman Charlie Kelleher (on the power play) also scored as UNH built a 5-0 lead after two periods. Kelleher also had a pair of assists.

The shutout was the seventh of Tirone’s career.
