Monarchs drop season opener to Worcester, 4-3Staff Report

The Manchester Monarchs dropped a 4-3 decision to the Worcester Railers on Saturday as both teams opened their ECHL schedule.
Michael Doherty scored twice and Tony Camaranesi added one in the second period as the Monarchs scored three straight goals, turning a 2-0 deficit into a 3-2 lead. But Worcester chipped away with a goals from Patrick McNally to tie it and the end of two periods, and Frankie DiChiara's third period game-winner.
Worcester scored first as Wade Murphy netted the only goal of the first period. Ashton Rome doubled Worcester's advantage early in the second. Doherty scored his first just 5 seconds after Rome's goal, and Manchester scored twice more in the next 5:44.
Jordan Lavallee-Smotherman and Kevin Morris both notched two assists for Manchester.
Evan Cowley made 27 saves for the Monarchs. Eamon McAdam stopped 34 shots for Worcester.
The Monarchs are in action again today with a 2 p.m. face-off at Brampton against the Beast. The teams will play again in Brampton on Tuesday at 11 a.m.
The Monarchs start their home schedule next Saturday with a 6 p.m. game against Worcester.
