Traffic delays expected for Pembroke paving project

October 16. 2017 10:15PM

PEMBROKE — Expect delays this week as workers pave around the Route 3 and Route 106 intersection.

Paving was scheduled to start Monday for those two roads as well as Kline Way and is expected to wrap up on Friday.

Drivers are encouraged to seek alternate routes during this time.

The paving is in conjunction with the new loop road project meant to extend Cooperative Way to Route 3 at the Route 106 intersection.

Construction on more than 1,000 feet of new road began last summer.

This will allow for businesses on that road, such as Associated Grocers of New England, to expand and for other new businesses to come in without having to clear the land or build the road themselves.

The cleared space will operate as a tax increment financing (TIF) district. Portions of the taxes collected from the new businesses in that area will go toward paying off the $3.2 million bond funding the work.

The project was spearheaded by the late Fred Kline, a selectman for the town who died last October. The new road is named after him.
