NHIAA Roundup: Exeter dumps Central in field hockey tourney

Maddie Davis scored both goals for the 11th-seeded Exeter High School field hockey team on its way to a 2-1 victory at No. 6 seed Manchester Central in the first round of the Division I tournament Wednesday afternoon.
The Little Green (7-5-3) tied the game with 11:30 remaining before Davis scored the game-winner two minutes later off a penalty corner. Davis’ first goal, which opened the game’s scoring, also came off a penalty corner.
Gabby Leonard scored Central’s lone goal from the top of the circle off a penalty corner.
Salem 2, Merrimack 0: In Merrimack, Chloe Sicard scored both goals to lead No. 9 seed Salem to victory in the first round of the D-I tournament. Sicard scored once in each half. Maddie Rasello and Jordyn Wakin both tallied assists and Jaycey Ritter made eight saves for Salem. Heather Rone made 11 saves for No. 8 seed Merrimack (7-8-1).
Dover 2, Keene 1: In Keene, Brooke Sorbello and Holly Spriggs both scored goals for No. 10 seed Dover.
Portsmouth 1, Windham 0: In Portsmouth, Sydney Ludes scored the game’s lone goal in the second half. Olivia Gomes made 10 saves for Windham (8-7).
Campbell 3, Hillsboro-Deering 0: In Litchfield, Karleigh Schultz, Erin Douglas and Kate Stoncius each scored a goal to lift Campbell to victory on the team’s senior day. Emma Rousseau, Meghan Shaffer and Maddie Greenhalgh each registered an assist while Alicia Noury and Sierra Rienitzer combined for 10 saves for the Cougars (10-4-1).
Manchester Central 4, Salem 0: On Tuesday in Salem, the Little Green made it 14 consecutive wins and registered their fifth shutout in their last six games. Goals for Central (14-1) came from Maddy Tremblay, Paige Laberge, Mariana Poore and Nadege Masubuko. Central used Jess Lewis (four saves), Hannah Autenreith (one save) and Matara Tamzarian in goal to produce the shutout. Salem slipped to 3-12.
Bedford 4, Timberlane 0: On Tuesday in Bedford, Brianna Coco’s goal in the 32nd minute gave the Bulldogs (12-2-1) a 1-0 halftime lead. Teammates Olivia Toolink, McKenzie MacEachern and Shayna Salis tallied goals in the second half. Timberlane of Plaistow is 5-8-2.
Pinkerton 3, Exeter 0: In Derry, Ella Dandrade recorded 11 kills, 12 service points and 20 digs while Brooke Kane added seven kills and four blocks for Pinkerton (16-2). Kiley Davis logged nine service points and Sara Metzger tallied 26 assists for the Astros. Sam Wiberg had nine service points and Erin Kelly registered three aces for Exeter (10-7).
Hollis/Brookline 3, Bedford 0: In Hollis, Kenzie Powers registered five aces and 12 digs while Meg Cochran added an ace and three digs for the Cavaliers (17-0). Sierra Dinman logged two digs and six receptions for Hollis/Brookline. Bedford is 9-8.
Bishop Guertin 3, Winnacunnet 1: In Nashua, Mariana Gomez logged five aces, seven kills and 19 digs while Julia Pascucci tallied 25 assists and 13 digs for the Cardinals (14-3). Paola Matos recorded 21 digs and Libby Knapp had 11 kills for BG. Winnacunnet of Hampton is 4-12.
Campbell 3, Trinity 0: In Manchester, senior captain Gabi Sott logged one ace, seven kills and two digs while classmate Cleo Schultz added eight kills of her own for the Cougars (13-2). Sophomore Jordan Kanaley tallied two aces, two digs and 10 assists while classmate Mallory Reczko added two aces, two kills and one dig for Campbell. Trinity finished the regular season with a 5-10 record.
