The University of New Hampshire’s Jared Kuehl, a junior from Plymouth, on Monday was named the Colonial Athletic Association’s Defensive Player of the Week.
Kuehl had six tackles (five solo), including a quarterback sack, a fumble recovery and a pass breakup to help lead UNH to a 16-6 victory over Elon on Saturday at Wildcat Stadium.
A linebacker, Kuehl spearheaded a defense that limited the Phoenix to a season-low 31 yards rushing, forced three turnovers and shut out the visitors until there was 3:16 remaining in the game.
The Wildcats (7-3 overall, 5-2 in the CAA), jumped from 18th to 16th in the STATS FCS Top 25 released on Monday and went from 16th to 14th in the FCS Coaches Poll. UNH visits Albany in a regular-season finale on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Plymouth State remains second in New England
The Plymouth State football team, which is headed to its first NCAA game since 2008, remained in second place in the final edition of the New England Division III weekly football poll.
