State Rep. Mindi Messmer declares candidacy for First Congressional District seat

RYE — State Rep. Mindi Messmer, D-Rye, has officially announced her candidacy in the Democratic primary for the First Congressional District seat being vacated by Rep. Carol Shea-Porter, who has announced that she will not seek reelection.
Messmer has owned an environmental science consulting company, Terra Nova Environmental, since 1999.
She has been active in the effort to address water contamination and other environmental issues in the state. Messmer’s research contributed to the designation of a cancer cluster in the Seacoast area.
She was appointed to a task force on the cancer cluster in 2016, and elected to the state Legislature later that year.
The married mother of two teenage sons, Messmer graduated from Syracuse University with a B.S. in earth science and studied geology and hydrogeology at the University of New Hampshire.
She is pursuing a master’s degree in clinical and translational science at Georgetown University.
